Philosophy

Overview

​​We hold to a Biblical worldview that God is the creator and sustainer of the universe and the source of all goodness and truth. God has revealed himself through nature (His creation), through circumstances of human life, through all of history, and most importantly, through His son Jesus Christ, as revealed in the Holy Scriptures (2 Tim. 3:15-17; 2:15). Wherever truth is discovered or revealed, God is its source and Creator. Jesus Christ is the sustainer of truth, and the Spirit is the revealer of truth (John 16:13-14; 17:17). God has ordained the family as the foundation for mankind. Parents have been entrusted with the nurture, instruction, and discipline of their children. Christian schools have a responsibility to partner with parents and the Church in educating children in light of scripture. The purpose of Tama-Toledo Christian School is to assist families in establishing quality education that is centered on the Bible, the only inspired Word of God, for the spiritual, academic, emotional, social, and physical development and growth of the student. According to 2 Timothy 3:16-17, each student must be helped to become fully equipped in Christ.​​​

For the student’s spiritual and moral growth, we seek:

  • To teach the Bible as God’s inspired Word and to develop attitudes of love, respect, and obedience to the Bible (Psalm 19:7-14). 

  • To present the Gospel clearly and faithfully, desiring that each student would confess Christ as Savior as the Lord leads (Rom. 10:9-10; 1 John 1:9).

  • To develop a desire in the student to know, worship, and obey God and to live a life that glorifies God (Psalm 16:11; 63:1-8).

  • To develop self-discipline, stewardship, and responsibility in the student based on respect for and submission to God (Matt. 6:19-21; 1 Cor. 9:24-27, 10:31; 1 Tim. 4:7-8,6:17-19).

  • To teach the student respect for and submission to authority from God’s perspective (Rom. 13:1-7; Eph. 6:1-3; Heb. 13:17).

  • To help the student develop a Biblical worldview by evaluating life and his or her studies in light of God’s Word and then make applications to his or her life (Acts 17:11; 2 Pet.1:3).

  • To teach the student to hide God’s Word in his or her heart through memorization and meditation (Psalm 1:1-3, 119:11).

  • To prepare the student to know that life is not without trials, pain, suffering, and death, and that God uses difficulties to shape us into His image (John 16:33; Rom. 8:18-25,28-29; Jas. 1:2-4).

For the student’s personal and social development, the school aims:

  • To help the student develop his or her personality based on a proper understanding, acceptance, and respect of him or herself as a unique individual created in the image of God (Psalm 139:13-16).

  • To teach the student to treat everyone with love and respect as unique individuals made in God’s image (Eph. 5:21; Phil. 2:1-4).

  • To develop Biblical values of marriage and the family (Eph. 5:22-6:3).

  • To promote physical fitness, good health habits, and wise use of the body as the temple of God (1 Cor. 6:19-20).

For the student’s academic growth, the school endeavors:

  • To train the student to accurately handle the Word of God, the source of all truth (2 Tim. 3:16-17; 2:15).

  • To help the student communicate clearly with others through standard grammar, reading, writing, speaking, and listening for the purpose of (a) speaking the truth in love, (b) studying the Scriptures, (c) proclaiming the gospel, (d) defending his or her faith, (e) using language properly in creating stories, (f) critically analyzing literature, and (g) communicating daily (Ex. 20:16; Deut. 6:7-9; Psalm 78:4; 105:1-2; Rom. 10:13-17; 1 Cor. 13:1; 2 Cor. 5:20; Eph. 4:15; Col. 4:6; 2 Tim. 2:15; Jas. 3:1-12; 1 Pet. 3:15).

  • ​To help the student see God’s characteristics and his handiwork in mathematical truths, theories, rules, and properties. These truths are of divine origin, not human invention; therefore, they are unchanging and independent of culture or age. They are to be discovered, studied, and applied both in everyday life and as a tool in other disciplines (Psalm 147:4; Jer. 33:25-26; Mal. 3:6a; 1. Cor. 2:16, 4:33, 40; Heb. 1:3, 13:8).

  • To help the student to see Biblical six-day creationism as a foundation for scientific research and studies, to appreciate God’s wonderful world through these studies, and to apply the results towards the glory of God and the benefit of man (Gen. 1; 2:1-3; Job 38; Psalm 111:2; 147:16-18; Prov. 2:6; 3:19-20; 8:27-29; Jer. 10:12-13).

  • To help the student see that all history is God’s history. It is linear history with the beginning at the creation and the end at the return of Christ, and all events in between are orchestrated by the sovereign authority of God for His purposes (Gen. 1:1, 3:1-15; Isa. 9:6-7; Psalm 22:28; Matt. 1:20-24; 27:45-53 Luke 2:1-11; Acts 1:6-11; 17:24-28; Rom. 13:1-5; 1 Cor. 15:50-55; Rev. 7:9-10).

  • To teach and encourage the use of good study habits, facilitating an attitude of life-long learning (Joshua 1:8; Prov. 3:1-2; 2 Tim. 2:3-7,15).

  • To develop creative critical thinking and the proper use of Biblical criteria for evaluation (Prov. 8:33; Rom. 12:2; Heb. 5:14).

  • To teach the student how to perform independent research and to reason logically (Isa. 41:21; Prov. 14:15; 25:2; Acts 17:11, 17; 1 Cor. 2:16; 1 John 4:1).

For the home-school communication and partnership, the school desires:

  • To present the Gospel clearly and faithfully desiring that all may come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ (Eze. 33:11; John 3:16; Rom. 10:9-10; 1 Tim. 2:3-4; 2 Pet. 3:9).

  • To partner with families in discipling their children and help parents develop Christ-centered homes as parents are the primary teachers for their children (Deut. 6:4-7; Prov. 22:6; Eph. 6:1-4).

  • To cooperate closely as servants to the parents in every phase of the student’s development (Mark 10:45).

  • To assist parents with an awareness of the changing culture and its impact on the home and the implications for their children (Rom. 12:2; 1 Cor. 10:13; 2 Cor. 6:17; Jas 4:4; 1 Pet. 1:13-19; 2 Pet. 1:2-4; 1 John 2:15-17).

  • ​​To commit to open, transparent, truthful, and frequent communication between the school staff and parents. Recognizing the parents as the God-given authority in a student’s life, the school desires them to be interested and involved in their child’s education: knowing what the child is learning, how he or she is growing, and how he or she is behaving (Eph. 4:15, 25, 29; Col. 4:6; Titus 3:1-2).

For the partnership with the local church from which the student attends, the school desires:

  • To provide a strong biblical education (Rom. 15:4; 1 Tim. 4:13; 2 Tim 3:16-17).

  • To encourage lifelong learning of who God is and what He desires (Psalm 25:4-5, 8-9;Prov. 1:5; 18:15).

  • To encourage regular worship within a local church (Acts 2:42; Eph. 4:11-13; Col . 3:16; Heb. 10:25).

  • To encourage students to use their God-given resources and gifts in the local church, community, and world (Prov. 11:25; Luke 6:38; 2 Cor. 9:7; Col.3:23; 1 Pet. 4:10).

  • To help students to embrace that while trials, sufferings, and even persecution are part of a Christian’s life in this world, they are worthy of the wonderful promises God has given to His own (Josh. 1:9; Prov. 3:5-6; Isa. 41:10; Matt. 5:10-12, 44; Luke 9:23; John15:20; 16:33; Rom. 8:35; 2 Cor. 12:10; 2 Tim. 3:12; Rev. 2:10).

EDUCATIONAL GOALS

TTCS students will:

  • develop a desire to know, love, worship, and obey God and to live a life that glorifies him.

  • love others as themselves.

  • develop self-discipline, stewardship, and responsibility based on respect for and submission to God.

  • develop a Biblical worldview by evaluating life and his or her studies in light of God’s word and then make applications to his or her life.

  • hide God’s word in his or her heart through memorization and meditation.

  • always be seeking to increase their knowledge of God and his redeeming and transforming work in their lives.​​

  • pursue physical fitness, good health habits, and wise use of their body as the temple of God.

  • use creative critical thinking and proper Biblical criteria for problem-solving.

  • demonstrate confidence in their God-given gifts and set realistic personal and academic goals for a life of service in God’s Kingdom.

  • use their God-given resources and gifts in the local church, community, and world.
